Just as the poll ties up at 7 votes each (Thanks to all who voted!), we found out that we are having a baby girl.  The ultrasound went very well.  Everything is going wonderful.  When Jacob (our radiologist) was trying to get his pics, our little Weiss kept shoving her ass into the camera.  She’s going to fit in very well.

I’ll post some pics soon!

more about “We Can’t All be Short Round!“, posted with vodpod

I went for a checkup at the doctor yesterday. I haven’t had insurance (besides college) for years, so I wanted to get a complete checkup even though the only thing that is really bothering me is my allergies, which have jumped a little in the new climate.

The best part about my new Doc is that her name is Dr. Jones. So, I sat there and waited for someone to call her by her first name so I could correct them: “You call her Dr. Jones, Doll!” or “Hey Lady, you call her Doctor Jones!”

This all in attempt to complete my life long quest of becoming Short Round.

My family history is always a joy at the Doctors.  She asked me if anyone in my family had a history of drug use and of course I answered that my dad was a heavy user the whole time I was growing up.

She looked at me with some surprise and said, “What about your mom?”

“Naw,” I replied, “She’s just crazy!”

Dr. Jones got a shocked look on her face like she was hearing the saddest story in the world.  “Really,” she said.  What is her diagnosis?”

“No,” I laughed.  “I just mean she was crazy for staying with him.”

Birthday Celebration (Day 1) August 25, 2008

The Weiss holiday season starts this week.  My birthday is tomorrow, our anniversary is next week, and Shannon’s b-day is a few weeks later.

We started celebrating this weekend.  My in-laws sent me some cash, so I took my wife out for lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.  We had the Roasted Peppers and Egg Plant with Goat Cheese pizza.  It was wonderful.

Then, we slid over to Alderwood Mall for my birthday present from my good friend Cold Stone Creamery.  No body that lives near a Cold Stone could ever feel unloved on their birthday.  A free Love It size Icecream.  I chose Cake Bater Icecream with Yellow Cake and Crunch Bar.

Oh, and Shannon snapped this fruity picture of me enjoying my treat.

Some New Old Songs April 25, 2008

Some of you know I used to play in a band before I embarked on the never ending road to Dr. Buck. If you knew me back then or just want to hear what we sounded like, check out “Oooh, Where Are You Now” and “Whisper my Name” (two unreleased tracks) over at my cousin Charlie Ash’s music space. While you’re there, check out other great songs from his long career in music.

If you just have to have our album (I actually have about 1 person a year who contacts me looking for a copy and who eerily tell me that they “wore their copy out.”) you can pick one up at Half.com for a cool 75 cents!

Let’s get this party started. April 20, 2008

Pregnant

“Hey, come here and look at this,” my wife yelled from the bathroom. I knew that she had bought a pregnancy test since she had “felt strange” that morning, but I didn’t think much of it. She had accepted a job in Seattle, WA a few months before and we had decided to put off having a baby till we were established on the coast.

I stepped into the bathroom and she handed me a test. There was the faintest line in the readout. She hit the net. Everyone said the same thing – faint lines mean positive. According to most sites, its almost impossible to get a false positive.

She took the test again and got the same thing. We decided to wait before getting too excited and pick up another test.

We spent the day at school writing papers and studying. I suggested doing the test old school and sacrificing a rabbit, but my vegan wife would have none of it. We stopped by the store and picked up some digital tests on the way home.

As soon as we got home she took a digital test and it came up negative. We were a little shocked, but given the fact that she drinks a gallon of water while she studies, and all the tests say that water will dilute the process, we thought another test was in order.

So, we went to bed that night with the plan to check one more time in the morning.

I was woken up on Sunday with sweet sounds of my wife coming out of the bathroom and the readout you see above.

We’re pregnant!

Maybe not the best timing, but when is it ever. Its going to be awesome. New town, new home, new baby!

Now, I just need to get a teaching job and start my dissertation.
